Meeting Minutes
February 21, 2019
Prez Kelly in the Chair, Treasurer James and Secretary Karen
Kelly called the meeting to order at 7:02 pm.
Introductions were made around the table starting with a new member, Guy, who rides an Arlen Ness Jackpot. Also in attendance were Ron D., Wes V., Tony L., Woodie L., John B., Larry A. and Randy H. Total of twelve members once DrifterDon arrived later during the meeting.
Financials
James reported on our current bank balance to be $1268
Two Wheel Sunday
James gave some background information on 2 Wheel Sunday, which was started 5 years ago and is held the first Sunday in June. It’s a great get together for all motorbike folks. He reported that Victory Riders Calgary will be doing the Show & Shine at Two Wheel Sunday on June 2. This year we will be sharing the duties with the Calgary Indian Riders group (IMRG 1908). He handed out a letter to all of the members in attendance and encouraged everyone to pursue getting donations. Last year there were 25 bikes in the Show & Shine. This year we are aiming for at least 40 bikes. The club members need to spread the word and get the bikes to participate. Bikes need to be on display from 10 am until 3 pm. Volunteers are also needed – if we get enough people to help, the shifts will be shorter. Members can put their own bikes in the show – Promote Victory! Larry also talked about the new layout with traffic arriving from the north end and that there will be a live band “Older Than Dirt”. Kelly will be providing a sound system. There will also be a garage sale area where tables can be purchased for $15/table.
Spring Tune Up
The Club is still looking for a suitable location for the Spring Tune Up event. The Club works with a certified instructor who puts members and guests through a series of usually low-speed manoeuvres designed to knock some of the winter rust off the rider and give him or her more confidence leading into the riding season. A barrier-free paved area of at least an acre is ideal for the event. The club arranges the insurance and participants pay a small fee that covers the instructor and insurance. Any profit goes to general revenue.
The club is looking at May 11-12 as potential dates.
Several members had researched potential locations but were all told NO. James is going to check with MRU to see if their area is available and how much it would cost. If we can’t find a free location, we may have to pay for the spot and look for a sponsor. In the past, participants paid $20 for the course. It was suggested that pre-registered be $20 and day-of should be charged $25.
Rides and Events
Ride Captains Tony and Woodie put forth some dates and suggestions for rides from May to September. A list of the rides will be on the Rides & Events Calendar on the Club website shortly – www.VictoryRidersCalgary.com. Members are invited to add events that the Club might be interested in.
For the breakfast meetings, meet up locations suggested were: South - the Denny’s at the truckstop near the Deerfoot Inn & Casino; North – Perkins near Barlow and 32nd; West – Denny’s near COP; East – Langdon, Chestermere or Strathmore.
